The Virginia Department of Forestry is asking for your help building forests across the state. All you have to do is collect acorns from around your home.

Department officials will then have them planted around the state as native trees. Officials say it’s a way for people to become eco-friendly and recycle for nature.

“It’s a great way to perpetuate Virginia products in Virginia and we really appreciate the support the public gives us,” said Gregg O’Donnell of the Virginia Department of Forestry.

Once you collect the acorns you are asked to store them in a paper bag and it would be helpful to put a leaf from the tree in the bag with the acorns. You can take the acorns to the Department Office, which is located at 900 Natural Resources Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903.
