A sweet, foul, alcoholic, smelling bacterial disease makes a great snack for butterflies and other insects. The bacteria ferments, produces carbon dioxide gas, and pushes sap out of the wood of the tree. The bacteria isn’t really treatable, best to keep the tree happy, healthy, free of mechanical damage from the start.
