Carolina Allspice

Calycanthus floridus

Fall is the time when the fruit matures and shows off on the Carolina Allspice. The fruit can persist on the shrub through winter, making for a very handsome form of shrubbery. This dense, bushy shrub is native to the Virginia area. You can find it in your local forest woodlands as well as in your local nursery. Deer don’t like it. It’s a great plant to plant close to a seating area so you can smell the sweet scent. Ahhhhhhhhh.
