American Dagger Moth

leave a comment »

American Dagger Moth.

I found this guy today hanging out on a maple tree.

Acronicta americana

This is the caterpillar form of the moth. Generally seen in the summer months. Common. The Acronicta americana can have multiple generations per season in this climate. Being august 18th, this is probably the second or third generation.

They feed on many species of trees but not to a damaging level.

No reason to worry. Just letting you know.

Now you know.

Entomology for the day. Complete.
